Native American Competition Powwow

Don’t miss the 11th Annual KHAHM Honoring Our Veterans Pow Wow on August 31 – September 1, 2019 in Corbin, Kentucky. This Labor Day Weekend powwow is sponsored by the Kentucky Native American Heritage Museum. Enjoy Native drum and flute music performers, demostrations of crafts and skill, story tellers, food and craft vendors. The Honoring our Veterans Pow Wow is a family friendly event with kids activities, including pony rides, petting zoo and inflatables. Don’t miss the excitement as dancers and drummers compete for over $19,000 in prize money! Note that there is limited seating, so bring your own chairs.

DRUM COMPETITION – PRIZE MONEY

Drum Contest Rules
  • Drum hopping will not be allowed.
  • Anyone on a drum found under the influence of drugs or alcohol automatically disqualifies the whole drum.
  • Required Number of singers: Min = 4, Max = 12 singers.
  • Must keep drum area clean. (This show respects to the Powwow
    committee and helps in clean up.)
  • Registration Fee per drum. – $20.00
  • Must be seated at drum by the start of Grand Entry and be ready to participate in the drum rotation or 10 points will be deducted.
  • Drum registration is 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM on Saturday. Late registration after 10:45 AM Saturday will be allowed with a deduction of 25 points and if agreed on by the other drums’ Head Singers.
  • Contest songs will be announced by the M.C. during the powwow dancing.
  • You must register the names of the singers on your drum by the register cut-off time and maintain the same singers during the competition.
  • Women singers are not allowed to beat on the drum but can sit or stand behind the men singers.
  • All judges’ decisions are final.
