The Museum of the American Indian in Novato is celebrating its 50th year, September 16, 2017 from 11a.m.-5p.m. with a Native American themed Trade Feast.
The event is at Miwok Park, 2200 Novato Blvd, Novato. The Trade Feast is FREE. Parking is available off site at the Lutheran Church.
Featured at the event will be Native American arts and crafts, Red Voices Intertribal Drum, Intertribal Pomo Dancers, Aztec Dancers Kalpulli Anahuak, Hula Manu O’o, Hoop Dancer, Miwok Songs and Stories, basketry demonstrations, regalia making, shell bead drilling, children activities, book sales and tours of the Museum.
Arts and crafts vendors will be offering silver jewelry, abalone shell jewelry and beadwork.Becky Olvera Schultz, a former exhibitor from the museum’s Masks of Americas show, will also be there with mask images on T-Shirts, photography, native pride caps and much more.
In addition, the Novato High School club members that were instrumental in forming the museum 50 years ago and the founders of the Museum will be recognized by the City of Novato by Judy Arnold, Marin County Supervisor and Mary Jane Burke, Marin County Board of Education.
In collaboration with the 50th, Dr. Tom King, a noted archaeologist, on September 15, 2017, 7:30-9:30, will be present his latest research on the “Search for Amelia Earhart” and his journey from the early days in Marin to the present. The event is at the Margaret Todd Senior Center, 1560 Hill Road, Novato, CA. A $ 10 donation is requested at the door.
